Bangladesh Stays Focused, Unimpressed by Babar Azam‘s Return
Bangladesh has made it clear: their recent Dhaka Test victory is in the rearview mirror. The Tigers have shifted focus entirely to the upcoming Sylhet Test, where Pakistan are expected to regroup — and arrive with Babar Azam back in the lineup after recovering from injury.
Despite the return of Pakistan’s premier batter, Bangladesh remains unshaken. Team officials and players are treating the situation as just another phase in a tightly contested series, not a game-changer.
Preparation Over Hype
Fielding coach Ashiqur Rahman Majumdar addressed the media during a training session in Sylhet on May 14, offering insight into the team’s mindset and preparations.
“After the win on the fifth day, captain Shanto already gave us a reminder during the celebration,” Majumdar said. “He told us to enjoy the day, but immediately start preparing for the next match. Our players are following that mindset. We have training today and tomorrow, and we will work on those areas.”
The emphasis is on continuity, discipline, and course correction — not on external variables like opposition comebacks.
Babar Azam? No Extra Pressure
When asked whether Babar Azam’s return would elevate the pressure on the Bangladesh bowlers, Majumdar dismissed the notion.
“I don’t really think so,” he said. “Our players are very experienced and energetic. They have played together for a long time. They know each other’s weak zones and strong zones. So I don’t think there will be any extra pressure or anything like that.”
This confidence is rooted in consistency. Bangladesh’s core unit has remained stable in recent cycles, fostering strong tactical understanding and on-field chemistry.
Nahid Rana Shines Amid Pace Progress
One of the biggest talking points from the Dhaka Test has been the emergence of young pacer Nahid Rana. His express pace and match-defining spells have drawn global attention, and the Bangladesh camp is rightfully proud.
“This is a very positive thing,” Majumdar noted. “We already had players who could bowl at 140-145 km/h. Nahid Rana is now a new sensation in pace bowling, which is a big plus for us. Along with him, Taskin also bowls above 140. Ebadot and Shoriful are also there. It’s very encouraging that we have a fast bowler like Nahid Rana in the team.”
The rise of Rana adds a new dimension to Bangladesh’s attack, traditionally seen as spin-dominated. With multiple bowlers consistently hitting high speeds, the pace unit is becoming a legitimate match-winning force.
Looking Ahead to Sylhet
As the teams gear up for the Sylhet Test, Bangladesh’s approach remains clear: stay process-driven, avoid distractions, and trust the collective.
Babar Azam’s return is acknowledged — but not feared. For the Tigers, the only challenge that matters is the one ahead, not who’s wearing the opposition jersey.
With strong leadership, a balanced attack, and a clear mindset, Bangladesh isn’t just playing for a series win — they’re playing to build momentum for the future.
