A New Chapter for Hyderabad Cricket

In a major development that promises to reshape the landscape of regional cricket, former Indian international batter Ambati Rayudu has officially been appointed as the Head of Cricket Operations for the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). The announcement, which came on the evening of May 5, marks the beginning of a transformative three-year term for the veteran cricketer, who is eager to implement systemic changes within the board.

Ambati Rayudu’s Vision for HCA

Rayudu took to social media platform ‘X’ to express his enthusiasm regarding the appointment. Working under the guidance of Justice P. Naveen Rao (SMC), Secretary M. Jeevan Reddy, and the apex council, Rayudu views this as a vital opportunity to refine the administrative processes of the association. His primary motivation, however, remains the untapped potential of the region.

“I am very happy to announce that I have been appointed as the Head of cricketing operations for HCA. It is a great opportunity to clean up a few things, but I am more excited to see the immense cricketing talent in Hyderabad and Telangana flourish and produce more players to represent the country,” Rayudu stated in his announcement.

Prioritizing the Players

A central tenet of Rayudu’s philosophy is the strict separation of cricket from administrative politics. He emphasized that the focus of the board must remain on the welfare of the players rather than bureaucratic hurdles. By prioritizing the athletes, he aims to elevate Hyderabad’s status in domestic cricket circles, potentially turning the state into a powerhouse of talent production.

“I’m a firm believer that cricket should be separated from administration and all the other related matters. Cricket should be run with players being the priority, and my job is to look after players’ welfare and make Hyderabad a powerhouse of domestic cricket,” he reiterated.

Modernizing Operations and Infrastructure

Rayudu’s roadmap for the HCA involves significant modernization. He plans to introduce a formal player contract system, drawing inspiration from the successful models utilized by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Furthermore, he aims to move toward automation to minimize human interference in cricketing operations, ensuring a transparent and professional environment for all athletes.

Additionally, plans are underway to establish a Centre of Excellence, modeled after the prestigious facility in Bengaluru. This, he believes, will provide local players with world-class training facilities that were previously inaccessible within the state.

Expanding the Scouting Network

The HCA administration is also looking beyond the city limits. HCA Secretary M. Jeevan Reddy confirmed that the association is actively working to identify raw talent in rural areas. The board is currently expanding its infrastructure footprint to facilitate this growth.

“Mahabubnagar and Karimnagar have new stadiums. Apart from these two, we also acquired a ground in Nizamabad. We are also in discussion for land acquisition in Khammam, Warangal, and Nalgonda. It should be finalised in the next two or three months,” Reddy added. These initiatives collectively suggest a robust and ambitious future for cricket in Telangana, as the HCA seeks to bridge the gap between rural talent and professional platforms. With Rayudu at the helm of operations, fans and stakeholders are optimistic about a more streamlined, player-centric, and successful future for the sport in the region.
