Sanju Samson Reveals Secret to Match-Winning Form After DC Victory
Samson Stars as CSK Dominates Delhi Capitals
In a crucial mid-table clash that had significant implications for the playoff race, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) showcased their clinical efficiency by defeating the Delhi Capitals (DC) by 8 wickets with 15 balls to spare. This result marks a double victory for the Men in Yellow over the Capitals this season, further cementing their status as a formidable force in the competition.
A Challenging Surface and DC’s Struggles
The match was played on a tacky, difficult wicket that demanded patience and technical proficiency. Delhi Capitals, coming off a disappointing collapse against Royal Challengers Bengaluru where they were bundled out for just 75, were looking to regain momentum. However, their batting woes persisted.
CSK bowlers were relentless inside the powerplay, putting the DC openers under immediate pressure. Pathum Nissanka (19) and KL Rahul (12) failed to find their rhythm, and the Capitals soon found themselves in deep trouble with half the side back in the pavilion for under 70 runs.
The Partnership That Rescued DC
A valiant 65-run partnership for the 6th wicket between Tristan Stubbs (38) and impact sub Sameer Rizvi (40) helped stabilize the innings. A late cameo from Ashutosh Sharma, who smashed 14 off just 5 balls, eventually pushed the Delhi total to 155/7. The spin duo of Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad were instrumental for CSK, picking up three crucial wickets between them to restrict the flow of runs.
The Samson Masterclass
Chasing 156, Chennai Super Kings experienced a stuttering start themselves. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, coming off back-to-back fifties, departed early for 6 runs. Despite the pressure, Sanju Samson anchored the chase with absolute composure. While Urvil Patel added a quick-fire 17 off 9 balls, it was the Samson show that captivated the audience.
Samson reached his half-century in 32 balls and continued to dismantle the DC bowling attack. He finished unbeaten on 87* off 52 deliveries, ably supported by Kartik Sharma (38*), as CSK cruised to victory with more than two overs to spare.
The Secret Behind the Success
Reflecting on his match-winning performance, which earned him the Player of the Match award, Samson opened up about his process. Having previously scored a century against the same opponent at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, he seems to have found a special connection with this matchup.
“You try to see what serves well, stick to the basics and trust your hands to do better,” Samson explained. “I just stuck to the process and it’s working out well. I’ve been doing it for the last 3-5 years; it’s a tactical bit as well—I move around a bit according to the bowlers.”
When asked about his temperament, he noted that while spectators are seeing more of his impact, his internal state remains unchanged. “I’m always like this, the biggest change is you’re seeing more of me, but I’m always calm. Looking at what we were chasing and how the wicket was behaving, I was confident about scoring runs in the middle overs against the spinners.”
Looking Ahead
Samson candidly admitted his desire for another century but prioritized the team’s victory. “There was a desire, but I had to be a bit too selfish to get it. My partner was playing well and winning the game gives you more confidence and happiness. A few more matches to come, let’s see if it comes around.”
With this victory, CSK continues to build momentum as they look toward the business end of the tournament. The synergy between captain Gaikwad and his star batter Samson has been a highlight of their campaign, drawing praise from all corners of the cricketing world.
